Attend our upcoming ITS Conference and indulge in the captivating festivities of the Loy Krathong festival
We are thrilled to inform all participants that the conference dinner on November 27th coincides with the Loy Krathong festival, one of Thailand's most cherished traditions.
Have you ever heard about the Loy Krathong festival?
According to the meaning, Loy (ลอย) means 'to float,' while Krathong (กระทง) refers to a 'small vessel made of leaves that can be floated on the water.' The origins of the Loy Krathong festival are older than the Sukhothai period of 800 years ago. The festival is held annually on the full moon night of the twelfth lunar month, usually in November.
On this particular occasion, people gather to express gratitude to the goddess of water (called Phra Mae Khongkha) or to worship the Buddha, depending on their customs and beliefs, and release floating baskets made from banana leaves, decorated flowers, and candles (called Krathong) onto rivers. Other Loy Krathong activities include floating sky lanterns, the tradition of beauty pageants dressing up as Nang Noppamas, and other local fairs.
The Loy Krathong festival is celebrated across Thailand. In Bangkok, the Chao Phraya River is a hotspot for celebration.
The conference hotel faces the river.
Do not miss the opportunity for this enchanting Loy Krathong festival!
Royal Orchid Grand Ballroom is the perfect place to enjoy stunning views of the Chao Phraya riverside and experience the famous Thai festival 'Loy Krathong' and beautiful fireworks. The International Telecommunications Society (ITS) is an association of professionals in the information, communications, and technology sectors. ITS is an independent, non-aligned and not-for-profit organization with a worldwide network of around 400 members. ITS provides a forum where the academic, private sector and government communities can meet to identify pressing new problems and issues, share research results, and form new relationships and approaches to address outstanding issues.
ITS focuses on the evolving applications, services, technology, and infrastructure of communications, computing, the Internet, information content, and related industries. ITS achieves its goals by providing forums where academic, business and government researchers, industry practitioners, policymakers, representatives of international bodies, and consultants present and discuss research results and may interact spontaneously. The most important of such forums is a series of ITS biennial international conferences.
ITS also organizes local and regional symposia, seminars, webinars, workshops, and courses. ITS encourages and supports the participation of young researchers in its conferences. ITS disseminates research results and news to its members and to the general public via traditional and electronic means, including the Telecommunications Policy, the membership journal of ITS, the ITS Newsletter, and the ITS Web site, www.itsworld.org.
